AUCKLAND TAXI FARES.

DECISION AGAINST INCREASE.

Rumours of a probable increase in taxi fares in Auckland were commentedon this morning by Mr. A. K. Murray, manager of the Atta Taxis. Remarking that his company operated the largest fleet of taxis ill either New Zealand or Australia, Mr. Murray said they had no intention of increasing the fares. He considered that if they continued to receive the patronage that they had had lin the past an increase would not be j necessary, as with reasonable prices | many people would continue with that • method of transport. A ' company | operating an extensive telephone system i was able to have a pay load both ways J and cut out dead mileage. The experiI once of high fares was that it did not generally make the actual mileage 1 return any greater.
