DELAYED HEARINGS.
INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES. UNION ENTERS PROTEST. At a meeting of the Auckland Carpenters and Joiners' Union last evening dissatisfaction was expressed that delays had been experienced in obtaining Arbitration Court and Conciliation Council hearings of disputes or applications for awards which have been iiled. It was alleged that the delays were due to laxity on the part of employers to appoint assessors or to lodge counterclaims. The union decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. The secretary of the union, Mr. J. G. Kennerley, this morning stated that at last night's meeti»ig several instances of delayed hearings of disputes were quoted and it was held that in most instances the employers had had ample time to appoint assessors and to lodge their counter-claims. The meeting also passed a resolution expressing appreciation of the result of the organisation in the Auckland Province. Nine. new branches of the union will have been registered by the end of this week.
