FORTY HOURS.
THE NEW WORKING WEEK.
QUESTION IN THE HOUSE.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday.
The effects of the introduction of the 40-hour week in the various branches of the Public Service was the subject of a question which Mr. R. A. Wright (Independent, Wellington Suburbs) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr. Wright wished to know if the Government intended to introduce the 40-hour week into such Departments as the Railways, Postal, Police, gaols and the mental institutions on September 1. "If so," he said, "are steps being taken to train the additional men and women who will be required to effect the change ?"
