CYCLISTS' ROUND-UP.
TRAFFIC OFFICERS BUSY.
BREACHES OF REGULATIONS
Cyclists in Auckland are at present having their attention drawn to breaches of regulations in a traffic department "round-up." During the last day or two officers have been checking the equipment of the machines of schoolchildren, workers and other cyclists, and opportunities are being given for rectifying any breaches.
It was stated to-day that about 350 cycles had been found lacking in some respect since the campaign began. The machines are required to be complete with lamp, bell, red rear reflector, whitepainted back mudguard and registration. Particular concern is expressed in regard to the reflectors, which are considered of great importance in the safety of riders. The machines are being examined on the road, and those not properly equipped are required to be brought in complete to tile traffic department offices at the Town Hall, a day or two of "grace" being allowed. There was a busy scene at the Town Hall during the lunch period to-day, when many cyclists were having their machines re-examined. The campaign, more or less instructional in nature, will continue for some days.
