WHAKATANE ROAD FATALITY.

After a disagreement by a jury wliicli ijtook over four hours to consider its ver-. yesterday, Petcr--Piuil, aged 28, a three-quarter caste Maori, was retried before Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court to-day 011 charges of negligent driving, causing the death of Wi Patcne ■McCauley, and of being in a state of intoxication. The charges arose from a motor accident 011 -the TaneatuaWhakatane Road on March 14 last. Mr. V. N. Hubble conducted the case for the C'rown, and accused was defended by Mr. Julius Hogben.
