OBITUARY.
MRS. E. APPELGREN.
Mrs. t -E. Appelgren. whose .death occurred at St. Helier's Bay, was 84 years of age, and had lived 80 years in the Auckland Province. With the exception of seven years at Coromandel, her home had been in Auckland. Born in Adelaide, Australia, she came to New Zealand with her parents when a child. She left a family of six daughters, namely, Mrs. A. Dale, Camborne Road, Sandringham; Mrs. A. Grove, St. Andrew's Road, Epsom; Mrs. J. Watson, Katikati; Mrs. 11. Sayers, Putaruru; Mrs. D. McKay, Mount Eden; Mrs. R. Port, St. Helier's. There are two sons, Mr. F. Appelgren, Point Chevalier, and Mr. A. Appelgren, Putaruru.
The late Captain M. Huggett, for many years master of the Melancsiaii Mission vessel Southern Cross, was a brother-in-law.
REV. C. F. PIERCE
The death, has occurred in England of the Rev. C. F. Pierce, M.A., wh6 was headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School from 1922 to 1931. Mr. Tierce was born at Bootle, Lancaster, in ISS7. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he graduated as a Master of Arts. He was an assistant master at Cranbrook School from 19(H) to 1908 and master of Giggleswick School and Haileybury College and headmaster of the Cranbrook School from 1915 to 1921. In 1922 he camc to New Zealand to take over the headmastership of the Wanganui Collegiate School, a position which he occupied until 1931 when he resigned to return to England. - He was succeeded as headmaster by Mr. J. Allen, who resigned last December.
MR. C. H. HOPEWELL, SUVA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, July 17. Deep regret was expressed when it was learned that Mr. Charles Horace Hopewell had died after an operation, lie was a most popular citizen. For [many years ho owned a plantation, in . partnership with Sir Walter Carpenter, lon the island of Ivoro. Latterly ho had I been in the service of the Government. ;Mr. Hopewell, who came of an old Eng- | lisli family, leaves a widow and five j daughters, his only son having been j killed in the war. Mr. Hopewell's popularity was illustrated by the very large | attendance at the graveside, where the Venerable Archdeacon Harris conducted 1 the service.
