NEW ADDRESSES.
PARLIAMENTARY ELECTORS,
DUTIES NOT REALISED.
Some Parliamentary electors appear to be under the impression that when they move from one electoral district to another a notification to the registrar of electors of their change of address is all that is required to enable their names to be entered on the roll of their new electorates.
It has been pointed out that such is not the case. Application on the prescribed form must be made for registration m a new electorate upon completion of three months' residence therein. Printed notices to this effect posted to electors are often not read, and electors frequently visit the registrar's office and want to- know why they have been pestered with such notices when they have already notified change of address. When asked to read the notices they often confess that they had not previously . done so. It is surprising the number of people who, instead of reading electoral notices, jump to a conclusion, usually a wrong one. Regarding change of address within an electorate, the registrar has to be notified of this before the expiration of two months after removal from the old address, and no form of application for registration is required if the elector's name appears on the roll of that electorate. Failure to notify change of address is an offence punishable by a fine of five shillings on a first conviction, and to a fine of £1 on any subsequent conviction. ,
