GAS LAMPS TO GO.

WAIHI STREET LIGHTING. APPLICATION' TO POWER BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI,' Wednesday. The present system of street lighting by gas in Waihi will shortly be replaced by electric light, providing the Thames Valley Power Board agrees to the application of the Waihi Borough Council for the change-over. To this end a conference was held yesterday between representatives of the gas and lighting committee and the board, and an inspection was made of various points in 'the borough where electric light will replace gas.

The proposal means that 76 gas lamps will be dispensed with. The business area of the town and the approaches and the-Waihi Beach township have had an electric light system installed for some years. It is also likely, as a result of a petition now being formulated, that the borough will become an inner area under the Thames Valley Power Board.
