CANADIAN TRADE.
MUTUAL AGREEMENT.
EXTENSION UNTIL 1937.
BIG EXCESS OF IMPORTS,
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
In a statement issued to-day the Minister of Customs, Mr. Nash, said that by mutual agreement between the Governments of Canada and New Zealand it had been decided that the existing trade agreement between the two countries is to be extended until September 30, 1937. The position regarding trade between Canada and New Zealand during the last five years is as follows:—
I The desirability of revising the agree- > ment to ensure as far as possible an . exchange of trade more equitable from the point of view of this Dominion is fully recognised by the Government, and it is hoped to take steps in that direc- > tion before the expiry of the extended - period now arranged. As has been intimated previously, the Government proposes to give attention to the question of trade, firstly, with the United Kingdom, secondly, with the British Dominions, and then with other countries. As soon as the position regarding trade with the United Kingdom has been finalised attention will be directed towards the negotiation of a jiew agreement with Canada.
