CHAOS THREATENS

MARKETING IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, July 20. The Privy Council's decision in tlie dried fruit case is upsetting the marketing arrangements for Australian produce. The matter is being widely debated in all the States. The fear is expressed that chaotic conditions will prevail in the primary industries unless the Commonwealth Government is able to suggest a way out. The Federal Cabinet is to meet in Melbourne to-morrow to discuss the position. Mr. T. Pateraon, Minister of the Interior, in discussing the judgment, said it meant that trade between the States must be free of the quota restrictions which the Governments of the States had agreed to apply within their own borders. In other words, inter-State trade would be freerer than intra-State trade, which was an impossible position.
