POWER SUPPLY.
REQUEST FOR INQUIRY.
WAITEMATA BOARD'S VIEW.
Following a long discussion at a meeting of the' Waitemata Electric Power Board yesterday afternoon it was decided, on the motion of the chairman, Mr. W. R. T. Leighton, to request the Government to set up an independent committee to make a thorough invstigation into and report on every aspect of the electrical supply industry. In moving the resolution the chairman said he considered there was no call for nationalisation, but that there was room for a big improvement in the electrical supply industry in New Zealand generally. It was a farcical position when supply authorities could import their own Diesel generating sets in opposition to the national generating stations, which had cost the ratepayers of the Dominion over £14,000,000. Mr. E. Aldridge considered that before members were called upon to vote on such a vital matter they should be given time to consider it in every detail. He moved as an amendment that the chairman's motion be taken as a notice of motion, and thus enable consideration to be deferred. \ The amendment was defeated.
