HAWERA HORSES.

RANGITI KEI MEETING. RECENT TRACK WORK. 1 Hawera horses booked to leave for Marton to take part at the Rangitikei meeting > are Oriel, Panloff, Indiscretion, Shemseh l and Lucrece. | Oriel has made considerable improve- ; meritj lately and is holding his condition : better than for some time. His schooling ■ efforts have been excellent and he should 1 run prominently in .the Bracelet. Since coming to Hawera the maiden Lucrece has shown pace and is evidently on the improve. The handsome Nigger Minstrel —Slackline filly Shemseh is to make her first in a race and is sure to attract attention. J. Brown has not been able to do as much with this filly as he would have liked, owing to her going off her feed slightly, and she will have to be taken on trust, although . possessed of ample speed. Indiscretion jumps well, but is not a thoroughly sound mare. If right to-morrow . she may give a good account of herself in the steeplechase. Panloff is in the same category. He is a safe jumper and easily defeated Indiscretion in a schooling bout over five hurdles on Saturday. Though rain had fallen during Friday night the Hawera tracks were in capital order on Saturday morning for training operations, when horses engaged at the Rangitikei meeting and Awapuni were given solid tasks. From the half-mile on the course proper, with the pegs Isft out, LucreSe (Duncan) opened up a bseak of several lengths from Le Grand (Button), but being steadied the pair turned for home together and Le Grand, finishing strongly, scored by three parts of a length in 53%5. ' The rising three-year-olds, Mystic Glow ■ (Howe) and International (Cook), went pleasingly over three furlongs in 395, International finishing half a length in , front. •' , Oriel (Cook) alone went a mile, occupy- , in*c SGV2S for the last half, time on which j he could have improved. j Onewhetu (Cochrane) and Wotan (But- i ton) ran home the last three furlongs of. j a round on the trial grass in 435. One- j whetu was going easily and Wotan is, ( showing improvement in his track efforts. £ Panloff (Grindlay) easily held Indiscretion (Webby) at the end of a round of £ tlie schooling hurdles. . ,~ . Supreme Court is one of the fittest horses on the tracks and worked attractively over a round, running his_last.three furlongs in 435. Cynical Kid is still being pottered about. F. Fryer's Chief Ruler— c Irish Lyric "yearling filly lias had the e name of Bina claimed for her. 1:
