GLENDOWIE EVENTS.

LATIMER BAGS DECIDED

One of the Glendowie Golf Club's major competitions was decided during the weekend, when F. Trice and S. R. Self met I G O'Neil and M. Hutchison in the final for the Latimer Bags. The former pair won at the nineteenth. After varying fortunes, Hutchison and O'Neil were 1 up at the turn, but, with Hutchison playing to par figures, they increased their lead to 3 up at the thirteenth. Trice and Self staged a recovery, however, and they were 1 up on going to the eighteenth where O'Neil's six-foot putt won the hole. ' The match went to Trice and Self at the next hole.

A Stableford bogey competition was played under most unpleasant conditions on Saturday. F. Lintott won the senior division with a score of 24—7—31, while J. Lane was the successful junior with 12 —14 —20.

SWANSON CUP.

M. BUSH WINS FINAL. To be 6 up when two holes of the second round were played and lose the whole of this advantage after 12 more, and eventually win on the last of the 36-liole Swanson Cup final at Akarana yesterday, was the experience of M. Bush. His opponent was C. R. Taylor, who was in receipt of four strokes each round. The loser is to be complimented on the fine struggle lie made when the game seemed as good as over so early in the second round. Bush started off well in the morning with four bogeys and a birdie 2 at the fifth to bo 4 up. Taylor played the rest of the first nine steadily to reduce the deficit to 2, but in the next nine Bush increased ills lead to 4 again. Both made a bad slart in the second round and Bush took the hole with a 0; winning the next, he was 0 up. Three bogeys to Taylor were all wins and he also took the tenth and eleventh, tints being only 1 down. Taylor's last stroke at the fourteenth enabled him to square the match. Both were wide of the green with their seconds, but Bush chipped to within 4ft of the pin. His opponent played a weak chip, but hung on the lip of the hole with his next; as Busli missed his putt for 4, the game was all 11a t. Coming down the hill to the fifteenth, Taylor duffed his drive and sliced Ills second into the drain, incurring a penalty. He took 5 to reach the green. Bush also struck trouble, hooking his drive and playing a provisional ball from the tee. However, his ball was found near the fence and he was able to chip out and reach the green in 4, winning the hole with a 0. At the short sixteenth Bush was bunkered and lost the hole in 4 to 3, his opponent playing a good iron to the green. The game was thus all square again. A well-played second down the hill ensured Bush's 4 at the seventeenth, Taylor finding the bunker from the other side of the fairway. Bush got the lead again with a 4 to 5 and settled the issue when he chipped in to get another 4 at the eighteenth, thus winning 2 up.
