FANCY DRESS CARNIVAL.

On Saturday evening tlie Scots Hall, Symonds Street, was beautifully decorated with illuminated Chinese lanterns and paper garlands on the occasion of the Astoria Dance Club's annual fancy dress carnival. The orchestral dais, arranged on Continental lines, was illuminated with strings of coloured festoon lights, and dance music was rendered by the Astoria Dance Band under the leadership of Mr. Jack Palmer. Prizes in the fancy dress carnival Were awarded as follows: Best dressed lady, Miss Carroll (Arabian lady); best dressed gentleman, Mr. B. Buchanan (Arabian); most original lady, Miss Jo-!es (air mail); most original gentleman, Mr. Taylor (Herr Hitler); most comical lady, Miss Tombs (cannibal); most comical gentleman, Mr. T. Jones (skeleton).
