NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTED.
New Zealand will be represented at an important medical congress, the PanPacific Surgical Conference, to be held at Honolulu from August 8 to 18. Recent developments in surgical work in practically every country bordering on the Pacific will be discussed. There will be representatives from the United States, Australia, South America, China, and Japan. The Dominion delegates, who are expected to number about twelve, will be headed by Dr. J. Hardie Xeil, of Auckland. Many of the leading surgeons of the United States are to attend. One of the most important sections of the conference will deal with hospital planning and organisation, and in this respect the American system is recognised as being perhaps the most efficient in the world. The consulting hospital architects of California will attend the conference. The Auckland Hospital Board lias deputed Dr. Frank Macky, chairman of the honorary staff, as delegate in connection with the hospital-planning section. The discussions of the conference should be of considerable importance in regard to the need for reconstruction, which has been stressed in connection with the Auckland Hospital. Many other affairs, relating to such aspects as cancer research and general departmental work, will be fully dealt with. There will be contributions from the eye, X-ray, pathological and throat departments of the Auckland Hospital in the way of demonstrations. Dr. Neil will leave by the Niagara to-morrow, and it is expected that a number oi I other New Zealand delegates will follow | by the Monterey on Saturday.
