ELDERLY MAN DROWNED.
FALL FROM CITY WHARF,
Shortly after seven o'clock 011 Saturday evening Mr. W. P. M. Todd, an elderly man, formerly of Thames, fell into the harbour from the Northern wharf and was drowned.
Mr. Todd was seen to fall by a nightwatchman employed by the Northern Steamship Company, Mr. J. McDougall, who threw a lifebuoy in his direction. Some difficulty was experienced in getting him out of the water, but this was eventually accomplished with the aid of the crew of the Taniwha.
Artificial respiration was attempted for nearly an hour by St. John Ambulance officers, and police attached to the Queen's wharf station, but the man could not be revived.
