OPERATORS CONFER. EXPRESSIONS OF CONCERN. PROTECTION FOR RAILWAYS. (By Tclegrnpli.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON 1 , this day. With the object of .considering the Government's proposed regulations for the control of goods transport services, more than oO licensed goods service operators from all parts of New Zealand assembled in Wellington this week for a special general meeting of the New Zealand Eoad Transport. Alliance. Mr. A. S. Bailey, chairman of the Alliance, presided at the meeting, which concluded to-day. The regulations were considered, and while most of the clauses either of a machinery nature or for the purposes of repeating* and/or improving past regulations, were accepted without comment, the meeting expressed concern "at the apparent intention of protection for the railways embodied in the regulations."
"Arrangements were made," proceeds a. supplied report of the meeting, "to convey tlie views of the meeting to the Government, with an added request for a clear expression of the Government's future policy affecting the motor transport industry in the event of the Government's policy being directed toward subordination of motor transport to the railways, or toward the elimination of public transport facilities provided by the existing services. It Was the duty of those engaged in the industry, the meeting considered, to acquaint the public and the users of motor transport with the full facts/' .
