AGREEMENT REACHED; Britain Gives Way To Achieve Dardanelles Pact. DENOUNCED BY GERMANY. United I'ress Association. —Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 17. The Montreux correspondent of : "The Times" says the Dardanelles' ! Conference sat all day and finally I ] agreed to the text of a convention. j which the Drafting Committee to-day will give its final form for signing! lon Monday in the historic Castle j I Chillon, which Byron immortalised. | The conference acceded to the I Turkish demand for the abolition of the Straits Convention and permitted 1 Turkey to begin regarrisoning and refortifying the coastal areas and ' islands guarding the Bospliorus and the Dardanelles. ! The new convention will be left open for signature by Italy and other signatories of the Lausanne Treaty. Britain had to concede most of her contentions but tile points in question in some cases were of problematical practical importance. A Berlin message says the German Press denounces the Dardanelles agreement as a European line-up against Germany. It deplores Turkey's inclusion of what is described as an "anti-Nazi bloc." I RUMANIA'S POSITION. I DESIRE FOR FRIENDSHIP. (Received 10 a.m.) BUCHAREST, July 17. M. Titulescu, in an interview, stated that it had not been agreed to allow Soviet troops passage through Rumania.
