LEAGUE ACTION.

TENSION IN DANZIG. Commissioner Complains of Nazi Offences. SECRET DISCUSSION. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, July 2. , Mr. Sean Lester, League Commissioner in Danzig, in a report on conditions in Danzig, road to the League Council, described a series of incidents from the end of June, including an attack on a non-Nazi meeting, after which 50 people were treated in hospital. He referred to Nazi clashes with their opponents in streets, German newspaper attacks against him, and the failure of the officers of the German cruiser Leipzig to pay the customary courtesy call. "The Times" Geneva correspondent understands that the Council considers Poland as responsible for Danzig's foreign policy and should take the incidents up with Germany. Saturday's meeting will approve this course. The Council will meet in camera this evening presumably to discuss the Danzig difficulties. The "Daily Mail" Geneva correspondent says Mr. Lester was summoned to Geneva ostensibly to explain an incident in which the captain of the German cruiser Leipzig, when visiting Danzig, was reported to have slighted him by failing to pay a courtesy call. This coincided with newspaper attacks on Mr. Lester both in Danzig and in Berlin. Swiss journals, however, suggest there is a more sejisational reason for the summons, namely, fears of an imminent Nazi coup in Danzig. Large concentrations of German forces are reported to be occurring on the eastern frontiers. The Warsaw correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian" says Mr. Lester's sudden summons to Geneva caused consternation in Nazi circles in Danzig, which did not expect so quick a reaction from the League to recent events in the city, which are causing alarm in Poland. The "Kurjer Warszawski" says: "A sudden blow to Danzig would endanger Poland's very existence."
