GIPPSLAND FLOODS.

Police Fear Farmers May be Drowned. CONTINUED DELUGE. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Many families are homeless, thousands of head or cattlc have been lost, crops ruined and bridges washed away in Gippsland floods. No loss of life is thus far reported, but communication with some flooded areas near Bairnsdale is impossible, and police fear that some farmers who were trapped may have been drowned. Although rains have. ceased in East Gippsland, flood waters are still menacing low-lying country between Moe and Orbost, and for many miles the Princes Highway, between Melbourne and Sydney, is under water. Rain has fallen continuously in the eastern section of the State since Tuesday, and there have been terrific falls of snow on the highlands. Reports are to hand of police rescuing marooned inhabitants in Gippsland districts which fared badly in a recent deluge.
