SHOP-LIFTING CHARGES.
Two charges of shop-lifting were heard in the Magistrate's Court this morning against Herbert Pyke, a storeman, aged 54 years. It was stated by the police that Pyke had been seen taking three ties, valued at 4/0, from the Farmers' Trading Company, and that it was later found that he had taken another tie and a cake of soap valued at 2/8 from Woolworths. He was "stupid with liquor" when arrested. Pyke, who pleaded guilty, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment.
