LAUTOKA MILL IMPROVEMENTS. WILL EXPEDITE CRUSHING. , (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, June 15. Large and extensive alterations and improvements haVe been eflected at the Colonial Sugar Refining Company's Lau-' toka mill. The machinery has been im-j proved at considerable expense and it is hoped that the capacity of the mill will be increased from triple to quadruple extent. ! Crushing started at Lautoka on May 20 according to schedule. The object of the; improvement is to expedite <-■ liing and' so shorten the crushing season. j The company imported skilled labour from Australia and New Zealand and all available local men were given work, with j the result that business in Lautoka has' been very bright for months, making the! otherwise slack season really one of energetic bustle. The increased wages bill and greater spending power were appreciated by local business. In spite of the wet weather the season promises to be a satisfactory one.
