JAPANESE BARGAINS
STOCKINGS AT 2%D. LEEDS MERCHANTS CONCERNED. Members of the Leeds Chamber of Commerce were recently shown: Mackintoshes made wholesale, at 3/6 each; men's socks at 3/6 per dozen pairs; women's.stockings at 2%d per pair; men's sports shirts at 1/ each; and hiking shorts at 3d per pair. All these, made in Japan, were, it was stated, beiyig sold in British Colonial markets. Japanese-made fancy pull-overs were available at 29/ a dozen against the Lciccstersliire-made product at 59/ a dozen. . The chamber unanimously passed a resolution "viewing with concern the increasing trade of Japan in the British Dominions and colonies, and urging the Government to lay before the _ next Imperial Economic Conference a policy to minimise Japanese competition in oidei to protect the standard of life British workers, and to consolidate the Empire.
