HIDES AND LEATHER.
Writing of the world's hide markets as at May 21, Messrs. W. Weddel and Co. state: — "The steadier position in the South American market, coupled with the rather firmer position in the States, has helped considerably, and to-day it is generally accepted that the foreign hide market has ceased to decline. Miscellaneous and colonial hides have been a slow market. Some New Zealand freezer cow hides have been sold at down to sd, but are now held for 5%d to 5%d.
