"BEST OF LUCK."

THE LABOUR GOVERNMENT. EX-MINISTER'S OPEN MIKD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) IXVERCARC! ILL, Friday; * "It is wise for lis to take stock and see that democracy does work," said the Hon. Adam Hamilton, in replying to the toast of Parliament at a. function at Nightcap's,!' at which the Hon. P. G; Webb was fe.e.guest of, honour. ."I am not disappointed.'. at the! , change . of politics. "It" is better that ther ,change should come-there' thaii in the streets. It clears' air and ogives others a chance.; Opposition is a. healthy tfnng,; for it brings before the public the other; side of the story. • "Parliament has : become more inter- j eating 'now '"ifiat the debates are being broadcast. So far as'l can gather this procedure is .;creating a great deal of interest. It might make a material change in Parliamentary debates, for it is difficult to -hold the attention of the House for an hour and it will be much more so when it is realised that a thousand or more people are tuned in over the air. It will bring politics more closely into the lives of people. "I admire the sentiments expressed by Mr. Webb," Mr. Hamilton continued. "It is a splendid thing that the Labour party is in full power, for it can now carry out the ideals it has held for a lifetime. If its ambitions are realised without evil effects, then we will wish it well. All we want is good and the country is tOo good to spoil by party politics. We had a hard spin for three or four years, and the present' Government has not 'got it easy yet. Itneeds the support, sympathy and encouragement of the people of New Zealand. I wish the present Government the best ofv.'luek. It is perhaps far distant, but there may come . a day when there will "be no party politics in a democratic country."
