THE FIVE-DAY WEEK.
According to the "New Zealand Public Service Journal," the Commonwealth Tublic Service —the New Soutli Wales and now the Tasmanian Service —is now enjoying a five-day working week, which is working satisfactorily to all concerned. The only branch of the service in Tasmania which carries a skeleton staff on Saturday mornings is the traffic branch, Police Department, during the tourist season. Just as in New South Wales and in the Commonwealth, greater efficiency has been secured by the operation of the five-day week, so in Tasmania it lias also resulted in greater efficiency and economy. What New Zealand public servants want to know is when are they going to enjoy the blessing of the five-day week? They know it is coming, but when? F.E.
