WAR PENSIONS.
I read with some amazement the paragraph, in Friday's' "Star" where Sir James Gunson stated the provisions under the War Veterans Allowances Act were most generous and should be useful and acceptable. Does Sir James Gunson know that ill most cases the allowance to a man and his wife has been one pound per week? That sum is paid to the soldier and no allowance made for the wife, yet he speaks as if the old Government . made a wonderful allowance. This small pension cuts out the War Pensions Appeal Board, pension, as well as stopping a man from obtaining patriotic funds. So that this generous and useful pension one no better off. I am afraid there will be "little generosity in any pension scheme until the Government passes new legislation. A pound a week won't go far now that all eatables are going up and we get 110 sustenance, only this "small"-—or should I sav generous?—pension coming in. IRISH.
