NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE.

OVER RAN GIT AT A RIVER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Wednesday. The new railway bridge over the Rangitata $iiver, replacing the wooden structure which has been, in use for 00 years, was placed in commission yesterday when it was crossed by the northbound express. The new bridge, which is of iron with feiTo-9oncfete pillars, is 2000 ft long, and is at an elevaticfn of about 12ft higher than the old bridge, thus reducing the dip at the north end to a considerable extent.
