A WHALE'S MISTAKE.
SENSATION IN N.S.W. RIVER. (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A 40ft whale swam into Richmond River and caused a sensation when it collided with the ferry cables at Broadwater while the ferry was in midstream, causing it to rock violently. Broadwater is 16 miles from the rivermouth. The whale became stranded on mud flats, and attempts that were made to shoot it failed, the bullets making no impression. The whale later got back into deep water and was last seen heading for the sea.
