POISONING OF DOGS.
Another attack of a despicable nature lias been made on dogs in St. Helier's Bay, and I feel I cannot let this go by without a word of protest against such a trick savouring of everything which is cruel and inhuman. F° r any person to torture a dumb animal for hours on end, as has been done here this last few days, is sheer barbarity. Thanks to the untiring efforts of a chemist who worked for three or four hours, my own dog was eventually saved after hours of slow torturing. Xo small wonder we read of cruel things being enacted every day in the week while such people are at large. There is no excuse whatever for any animal these days to be put away other than by humane methods, and so whoever is responsible for this inhuman act will, it is to be sincerely hoped, reap a due reward. I trust the penalty for cruelty to our dumb friends will be more severe than ever. I am a friend of animals, pedigree or otherwise. H. HOLLIS.
