DROVE CAR WHEN DRUNK. OXE -TALKED TOO MUCH." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHAKATAXE. this day. Two Maoris. Edward Briscoe and George McHardy, were brought befoie •Mr. G. H. Brabant, J.P.. this morning charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. Briscoe was also charged with driving without a license. Briscoe attempted to back out from the kerb and crashed into a car owned by Henry Johansen, a traveller. McHardy heard of the accident and went to assist his friend. After Briscoe had been arrested, McHardy drove the car down the main street and went to the police station to protest against the arrest of Briscoe. However, he talked too much, and was also arrested this morning. Mr. Brabant said the Courts were 'taking a serious view of driving by intoxicated men, and inflicted a fine of £10 on each man. He also fined Briscoe £1 for driving without a license. Both men agreed to the issue of a prohibition order against the%.
