The first two singles matches resulted: G. von Cramm (Germany) beat G. Lyttelton Rogers, & —l, 6—2, 6—3;" H. Henkel (Germany) beat T. G. McVeagh, 6—l, B—6, 6—2. In tlie _doubles, von Cramm and Henkel defeated Rogers and McVeagh, 6—o, 6—l, 6r-4. . The second semi-final of the European zone is in progress at Vienna between Yugoslavia and Austria. The first singles resulted: Puncee (Yugoslavia), defeated von Metaxa (Austria), 6-j-4, 6—3, 6—l; Pallada (Yugoslavia), defeated Bawarowski, 3 —6, 6—4, 6—3, 3—-6, 7—5. The English Davis Cup doubles player C. R. D. Tuckey, while practising, fell and injured his right ankle. This may prevent him playing at Wimbledon. Germany was European champion-last year, but fell *to ..United States in thc t inter-zone final, by four rubbers to rone. The European champion will meet Australia, which won the American zone matches, 011 July 18, 20 and 21. The winner of that match will meet Britain in the challenge round on July 25, 27 and 28.
