FATALLY SHOT.
LAND AGENT'S DEATH.
ACCIDENT NEAR SILVERDALE. TRAGIC END TO OUTING. Mr. Kenneth M. Rutherford, an Auckland land agent, met his death yesterday through the accidental discharge of a shotgun in a motor car, which had been parked between Silverdale and Re i Beach. Mr. Rutherford was a member of a party which had gone out for a day's shooting. At the time of the accident he was sitting in the ear holding a double-barrelled gun between his knees. It went off and he received the charge in the neck, death being instantaneous.
The party left Devonport shortly after eight o'clock in the morning, and early in the afternoon returned to the car with the object of driving to another part of the district. At the time of the accident ho was gripping the gun and speaking to one "of his companions. The car was driven to Albany, where it was met by Dr. K. -H. Holdgate, of Birkenhead.
Mr. Rutherford lived at 41, Remuern Road. He wae 49 years of age and married.
An inquest was opened this morning before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.
