PRISONERS' TRIBUTE.
MOUNT EDEN EXPLOSION. EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY. A touching incident occurred in the Auckland Prison yesterday afternoon, when over 200 prisoners while attending a religious service in the prison yard, recorded their sympathy with the relatives of the young girl who was killed in last week's explosion in the factory of the Colonial Ammunition Company, and also with the other employees who were injured.
The monthly service of the Salvation Army was in progress in the prison yard when three prisoners requested that they and the other inmates should be allowed to show respect and sympathy with the relatives of the victim of the explosion and with the workers who had been injured. And so over 200 prisoners removed their hats and stood with bowed heads while the band of the Eden Corps of the Salvation Army led the singing of one verse of "Abide with Me." A prayer was also offered.
