FINE MAY IN NORTH.
EARLY FROSTS RECORDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. During May bright, clear weather prevailed in Whangarei, the total rainfall amounting to only 2.11 in, against an average for May of S.o4in. In the past decade tlfe wettest May was in 1D29, when 13.68 in were registered, and the driest was. in the following year wlien a low record of 1.63 in was established. For the five months of 1930 tha total rainfall in Whangarei has been 34.6 Gin. The average is (iO.OSin. The weather throughout North Auckland liadibeen so pleasant as to resemble an Indian summer. Last month there were 17 consecutive days of uninterrupted sunshine and: what rain fell mostly occurred during the night. In the upper part of the town three frosts were recorded, and on another occasion, when che thermometer touched freezing, there was no frost, but a thin fog. The heaviest frost of the year so far mantled the district this morning, when in Nixon Street, 200 ft above sea level, 4 degrees of frost were registered. The weather is again fine and settled, with cold night temperatures.
