CITY RATES.

ARREARS TOTAL £151,902. MORE COLLECTORS NECESSARY. Adopting the report of the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, approved by the finance committee, the City Council last evening decided to appoint two officers to be exclusively engaged ill tho collection of rates. The uncollected rates on.April 1 last amounted to £151,902. In his report Mr. Davis said it was not generally known that in connection with the payment of current rates and of arrears, the treasury would take money on account. He was sure that with rate collectors making systematic collections, and ratepayers informed that they may pay by instalment, the amount of the outstanding rates would be considerably reduced.
