CHAMPION BEATEN', FALL OF FIVE OTHER "GIANTS." (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. Six reigning champions were defeated in the first round of the British women's golf championship at' Southport. ■ Miss Bridget Newell defeated Miss Wanda Morgan (holder), 3 and 1; Hag Glutting (America) defeated Mrs. Vare (American title-holder), 3 and I; Mia Phyllis Wade defeated Mrs. Garon (English champion), 2 and 1; Miss Diana Fustwick defeated Miss Riebeij (Welsh champion), 1 up. The Irish and Scottish also were beaten. Mrs. J. B. Walker defeated Miss Jessie Anderson, 2 and 1; Miss Pam Barton defeated Miss Plumpton by one hole; Mrs. Greenlees defeated Miss Peatony by one hole.
