WOMAN KILLED.
SEVERAL INJURED. SMASH NEAR MERCER. CAR AMD TRUCK COLLIDE. VICTIM FROM KOHIMARAMA. Mrs. Francis Mary McLeigh, of 4, Faranaki Street, Kohiinarama, was killed, and several others were injured, in a head-on collision which occurred two miles south of Mercer at 10.15 last evening between .a sedan car and a motor truck. The car was driven by Mr. Carl Hubrick, of Auckland, and the passengers in it were Mrs. McLeigh, Mrs. Hubrick, Mrs. H. Smith, Mr. • James Ernest Gee and Mr. V. Long, all of Auckland. The car was coming towards Auckand and met two trucks, one following lie other, going in tlie direction of Hamilton. The driver of the first truck •mllcd to one side, but a tyre burst on die second, and a violent head-on smash with the car followed.
The driver of the second truck was Mr. A. Sigley, of Auckland. Mrs. McLeigh received terrible head njuries, and soon afterwards died. The lriver of the car and the other passengers escaped with minor injuries. The car was badly wrecked. An inquest was opened at Mercer this uorning. Visit to Huntly. Mr. Hubrick said this morning that hey had been spending the day at Juntly, where a son of Mrs. McLeigh ived. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. McLeigh vere relatives of Mrs. Hubrick. Mr. Hubrick said that at the time of he collision the weather was clear. 3oth the trucks were laden with benam. His own injuries were a blow on ;ho head and bruises and to-day.he was ■cifined to his home at Stokes Road, V" ount Eden. A passing doctor gave assistance soon cter the accident occurred, and a police jnstable was also soon on th® scene.
