SUITABLE WORKS.
GOVERNMENT SUPPORT.
PREFERABLE TO SUSTENANCE.
A suggestion that the board's officers should make a complete survey and supply a report setting out suitable works which could be considered to provide employment was made by the Hon. Mr. F. E. Lark, at this morning's meeting of the Auckland Transport Board. The matter was raised in the form of a question and aroused no discussion, but will be brought up again at the next meeting of the board.
Mr. Lark said that the policy of the Government was to provide suitable work for men at standard rates of pay rather than pay sustenance, and any such work would have the support of the Government.
