DIESEL ENGINE CAR.
ENGLISHMAN'S RECORD SPEED. NEW YORK, May 1.
A message from Bonneville. Salt Flats, Utah, reports that the British racing driver, Captain G. E. T. Evston, established a record of 158.7 miles an hour with a Diesel-powered racing car. His record run was made over a seven miles section of glistening white salt track used by Sir Malcolm Campbell, and was one of three. The first was 155.33 miles an hour and the third 153.74. ' The track was damp and sticky but solid. Captain Eyston's streamlined car, Flying Spray, raced three miles, went over the measured mile, and then came to a stop throe miles further on.
