BOXING.
AMBROSE PALMER. RETIRES FROM RING. EYE TROUBLES INTENSIFIED. SYDNEY, April 16. The Australian boxer Ambrose Palmer announces his retirement from the ring owing to eye troubles, which have intensified since his recent bout with Leo Kelly. Palmer says he has a good position in view.
Having been a notable boxer in Australia for just under ten years, Ambrose Palmer is retiring at the age of 26 years with a competence .of something like
£10,000 acquired from success in tlie ring. In 1927 he was the Victorian amateur welter-weight champion and runner-up for the Australian title. He started as a professional in 1929 and has had a singular and successful career, being defeated only by W. L. Stribling in 1932 and Leo Kelly in the final bout of his career, apart from a loss on an unintentional foul to Fred Henneberry in 1932. From 1932 onward Palmer held the heavy and light-heavy championships of Australia.
