DIAMOND JUBILEE.
CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
Special services will be held next week to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Beresford Street Congregational Church, which was founded in 1876. The celebrations will last from next Saturday tc Sunday week, and will begin with a picnic at Ferndale on Saturday. Preparatory services will be held on Sunday, a fellowship rally and communion has been arranged for Tuesday, the dedication of the newly constructed organ will take place on Thursday, April 2, and the final thanksgiving services will be held on the following Sunday.
The first Congregational Church in Auckland was founded by the Rev. Thomas Hamer, in 1852, and at that time the services were held in a cottage in Albert Street. A section was purchased in Beresford Street in 1869, and services were held in the school hall until the size of the congregation necessitated the erection of the present building in 1876. Galleries, vestries, and an organ loft have since been added, and the new hall was built in 1027.
