OVER THE AIR.
HOUSE BROADCASTS.
ONLY SPECIAL SPEAKERS. STATEMENT BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, stated to-day that the proceedings of Parliament would be broadcast through 2YA. If it was necessary to increase the transmission of Parliamentary speeches, as a result of a public demand, independent transmitting arrangements would have to be made.
The Government was merely making an inexpensive experiment to ascertain whether the community desired to listen to Parliamentary debates. It was not the Government's intention to deprive listeners of musical and other entertainment over the air. Only selected speakers would be given the opportunity to speak over the air, and only major debates and important statements would be broadcast.
