ON 'CHANGE.
BUSINESS STILL QUIET. BANK OF NEW 2EALANDS STEADY. Though bidding was still restrained at the morning call of the Auckland Stock Exchange, there was a suggestion of improvement in some sections. There were more buyers in the banking and the insurance classes. Bank of New Zealands ] steadied after recent sharp declines, and sold 3d higher, at £2 3/6, after which the market rested between £2 3/3 and £2 3/9. Commercials were steady between £1 0/1 and £1 0/4, and Reserves had buyers at £5 12/6, with sellers still asking £5 16/. Amongst insurances New Zealands were in demand at £2 19/ and South British at £4 9/6. Gas shares were weak, being on offer at £1 5/, with no buyers. The brewery section was strong, and Tuis had fresh business at £2 2/9, with buyers left in at two guineas and sellers at £2 3/6. A few buyers came back for Australian issues, and Glass was wanted at £4 0/61 and Broken Hills at £2 17/6. Government stocks were" in good demand, and several lots were on offer at about late rates. Market Steadier. The market was steadier at noon, with a firmer tone in Bank of New Zealands and in several industrials following the weakness of the past few days. National Banks had quotations at £3 13/6 and £3 15/6, after sales 3d below their late values. Consolidated Bricks had an unsatisfied demand at 10/, and Farmers' Trading were asked for at the market rate. Among the mining Mount Lyells were , definitely stronger, with buyers at £1 3/. INTEREST RATES. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends, works out as follows on the latest sales. When Government stocks are included, calculation provides for redemption at maturity. When payment is made in sterling, exchange is added. In the case of local body issues allowance is also made for 20 per cent interest reduction: PER CENT PER ANNUM.
