DOMINION CONNECTIONS. IMPROVEMENT IN AUCKLAND. The healthy position of the telephone branch of the Post and Telegraph Department was commented on this" morning by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, in furnishing the figures relating to new telephone connections made last month.
"The connections totalled 1154, and, except for October, 11)35, it is necessary to go back to December, 1930; to find a higher monthly figure," said the Minister. "Allowing for relinquishments, the net improvement in February was 549, while the total improvement compared with February, 1935, was 5051, bringing the number of telephone subscribers up to 128,723, or only 3.1 per cent below the highest peak ever reached in telephone connections in the Dominion.
"The improvement is particularly noticeable in Auckland, where the highest pre-depression peak was passed in June last year. Since then over 1000 new subscribers have been added, making the total number of subscribers in Auckland 10,531, which is approximately 2000 more than Wellington, the next largest exchange in the Dominion."
