SPORT MAD.
In a recent issue of your paper news comes from Dunedin that representations by the Dunedin Presbytery are to be made to the Minister of Internal Affairs with reference to the abnormal and absurd prominence which is given racing and sport of all kinds in this Dominion. We are told that we are sport mad, and it is very evident that a great many folk must be, when fully half the news session is devoted to sport by the IYA station every evening; further, it is always given prominence by the announcer, no matter what important news may be there. One cannot think that Ave are so obsessed and steeped in sport in New Zealand that the majority of the listeners to broadcasting are desirous of hearing it first. A reasonable amount of sport certainly is a good thing, as most will admit, but when it' is put before everything it is a curse. It is quite refreshing, however, to find that there are those amongst us who have the courage of their opinions, and who are not afraid to speak out and to put first things first.
