MAJOR BILLS.
POLICY COMPLETED. APPOINTMENTS NEXT WEEK? SAMOA AND UPPER HOUSE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. "Cabinet's policy regarding the Government's major legislative proposals has been completed, and the bills will be ready for Parliament when it meets towards the end of the month," said the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, in an interview to-day.
"Other important questions will be dealt with next. week/' continued Mr. Savage. "Cabinet .will meet on Tuesday to consider the appointments of an Administrator for Western Samoa, a Public Service Commissioner, and representatives of the Government on the directorate of the Bank of New Zealand. I cannot say at the moment whether all those appointments will be finalised in one day or more, but every effort will be made to reach decisions.
"As far as the future control of the public service Is concerned, the Government has not yet considered whether one commissioner should be appointed or whether a reversion should be made to control by three commissioners. A deputation from the public service discussed the question with me about a fortnight ago, and I welcomed and appreciated its expression of service views on the subject. The talk was not open to the Press, and I have not since made any statement on the question. The subject will be discussed fully by the Cabinet on Tuesday, and if possible a final decision will be made.
"Another subject which will he given decisive consideration by the Cabinet next week will be the general policy regarding broadcasting on the national radio services.
"It is likely, too," the Prime Minister added, "that before the end of next week the names of ten new appointments by the Government to the Legislative (Council will be announced."
