WANGANUI HORSES.
PROSPECTS OF MIDIAN. COLLODIAN AND COROWA. (Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, Friday. The first visiting horse to arrive in view of the Wanganui Jockey Club's summer meeting, which is to be held on Friday and Saturday of next week is Corowa. The Mint Leaf gelding has fined down a. lot since lie commenced racing and looks in good shape, though he appears a bit sore. Yesterday the tracks were in good order for galloping, but little work of importance was done.
Rust was given a run over seven furlongs, but was not asked to make time. The Lysander mare moved very freely and should strip in good order for the Cup, in which she lias been given 7.3. Rust is likely to run a good race.
Collodion was given a spin over half a mile in company with Corowa. They went together all the way and finished on terms after cutting out the distance ill 50 l-ss. Collodion has not done much fast work, and in the circumstances it was a good gallop on his part. He is in the Petrie Hack at 7.10. Imposture jumped off at the five-furlong peg and rati the first three in 395, but was then eased , up. The Posterity filly will run in tire: Juvenile Handicap and should show improvement on her previous efforts. The Image, who injured her round bone recentlv, has apparently thrown • off the effects.* She was restricted to trotting and lialf-pace work. The Captain Bunsby—Service colt and the gelding bv Cockpit—Mori were associated in a half-mile flutter. The colt had a couple of lengths* break at the start, but they were together at the post, which was reached in 51s. The two-year-old son of Captain Buiisby has not yet been named. He is engaged in the Juvenile Handicap, in which he has been given 7.7. He is. a good-looking sort and promises to be' useful later on. Midian was given trotting and half-pace jvprji. The son of Weathervane; appears to be in excellent fettle, and oil { liis recent "form must be hard to beat in,his engagements next week. . Recent rains have proved very beneficial and the local tracks are in splendid order; in fact, the going next week will be better than for many years for the summer meeting. •• ' V
