FRUIT CONFERENCE.
NEW SEASON'S PROSPECTS,
AGREEMENT WITH AUSTRALIA
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
HASTINGS, Friday
The results of the conference recently held in Australia in regard to the export of fruit from New Zealand and. Australia for the 1930 export season will be made available after the New Zealand representatives have had an opportunity of discussing certain aspects of the position with the Government.
• Mr. R. Paynter, a New Zealand delegate, to the conference and a member of the Fruit Control Board, said to-day that the conference was a great success. The Australian delegates expressed preparedness on behalf of their respective States, to make considerable;-sacrifices if, by their so doing, • the markets in the United Kingdom . could be - somewhat stabilised until more normal conditions prevailed. An understanding was arrived at by the conference, but the New Zealand delegates wished to discuss certain phases of the position with the Government before giving a definite reply.
Mr. Paynter said it was expected the Control Board would be able to export all suitable' fruit that would be available in New Zealand during the 1930 season. Reports generally had indicated that the quantity of fruit available for export -would not be as great as anticipated six weeks.ago, when there were prospects of an abnormally heavy crop throughout the Dominion.
