Howden and Cooper gave Pukekohe a good start and scored freely all round the wicket, the partnership putting on 04 runs for the first wicket, Lawrie scored in good, clean shots, and the third wicket fell at 127. Runs continued to come fast and at lunch Pukekohe had 220 up for the loss of five wickets. After lunch Fallows and Stoupe forced the pace and piled on runs, Pukekohe declaring with eight wickets down for 300 runs. Manukau opened with Brooks and Kinnaird, but Cooper soon shifted them. Millar was going well when Cooper. got a good ball through his defence. Gaulton got set, and it was not until he reached 01 that he put a catch up to Jack off Cooper. Warin made a failstand, but Cooper and Hardy soon got rid of the others. Manukau followed on.
